We, Ginny & Martin acquired Blue Hills Touring Park in March 2014. A massive lifestyle change for us and a big decision at our age to leave behind family most of whom live in Hampshire. We seem to have seen a lot more of them down here since we moved though, can’t think why!!!
Martin worked at Heathrow Airport T4 for 19 years as a ramp duty supervisor & Ginny worked in the retail sector, the last role with a large camping chain so chatting with people about tents and camping were the norm!

We caravanned when our 2 boys were young (now 31 & 30!) and enjoyed many a break in our little secondhand ABI. After upgrading a few times and enjoying many ‘fishing’ site based family holidays we progressed to a bigger caravan just for us once the boys decided it wasn’t cool to caravan with Mum & Dad anymore! We tried a motorhome break once, an enjoyable learning curve giving us a real insight to some of the practicalities of a motorhome, very enlightening!
Martin lawn bowls in his spare time and Ginny loved the dog agility circuit for a number of years with Harley our border collie. All holidays from his arrival started to revolve around suitable dog-friendly sites. Cornwall definitely became our favourite county invoking many great memories of holidays in our own youth.
(Very sadly Harley left us in July 2020 but his spirit lives on at Blue Hills with many Doggy visitors enjoying his field for their run-arounds)

We excitedly viewed Blue Hills Touring Park just outside the quaint traditional tin mining village of St. Agnes in June 2013 whilst holidaying nearby on the North Coast. We were wowed by Perranporth beach, the access to the South West Coast Path & the ‘local’ beaches at Trevellas Porth & St. Agnes. We were absolutely bowled over by the site itself. It needed some serious TLC and it was rather quiet for June! We were renovating a house at the time so we couldn’t put in an offer just then. In November 2013 we accepted an offer on the project house & just 2 days later we got a call asking if we were still interested in Blue Hills, we’ve never packed a bag so quickly!

Following much discussion with family, driving many miles & house hunting locally we moved to the lovely St. Agnes in January 2014 to take on the business just before the Easter rush 4 weeks away. Nothing like being thrown in the deep end! Easter is always busy not just because it’s Easter but due to the Motorcycle Club (MCC) Hill Climb Bike & Car Trials operated in the Valley. Great fun to watch!

Over the last few years we’ve upgraded toilets, showers & disabled facilities, revamped the wash-up area & the utility area room. We tidied an adjoining field which became ‘Harleys Field’, a great recreation area for our boy and all our 4 legged doggy guests helping us to win a few dog-friendly awards over the years. We then created Doggy Den as a safe welcome area to new doggy arrivals and nervous dogs. The fields can also be used by our younger visitors in peak holiday times. The old old horse shelter was ‘updated’ and backpackers now have a ‘dry’ space to chill in when needed. The electrics were upgraded allowing us to operate 16 amp hook-up points on all main field pitches and most tent pitches. Much outside building maintenance was done and in 2020 we introduced 4 ‘green’ grass grid hard-standing pitches, allowing us to pitch units comfortably during the damper Autumn/Winter months (we could open all year if we wish but opt not to ourselves). In late 2019 we were given full planning permission to build an abode on site with the addition of a nice reception office and new laundry room. This year (2021) we secured full permanent planning to incorporate a third of Harleys field as part of the campsite, licensing us to site up to 50 mixed units. It still leaves a large part of the field as open area for dogs to play in. The long term plan being to create ‘enclosed’ dog friendly pitches allowing dog owners to keep dogs off-lead in their own enclosed garden area. It’s the doggy version of ‘Field of Dreams’. The phrase ‘build it and they will come’ springs to mind!
We had a first ‘group camp’ for 2021 recently which was re-arranged from Easter earlier in the year. It worked well in the new area of the field with temporary fencing and gave an insight as to how the plan for the new pitches would work.

We love seeing our regular guests many of whom are now good friends, we’ve met many new campers, motorhomers and caravanners who have found us due to word of mouth and after seeing other guests lovely reviews of their stays with us. We often had many foreign Motorhome guests often just ‘dropping in’ on the off-chance we have a pitch available. We are often on site in the background along with seasonal site assistants to ensure your holiday is as relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
